If a significant portion of the text in an article of STAM is significantly different than the rest of the text, it is called “menumar” (speckled). Differences can include the relative size of the letters, the writing style, the color of the ink, or other variations. An example of “a significant portion of the text” in a Sefer Torah would be at least 4 instances of speckling on every single column in the Sefer. A menumar STAM item lacks inherent beauty and is pasul.
